TOMATO GIRL SUMMER

At this point, you’ve heard of a “Tomato Girl”, the hyper-specific aesthetic and social media core that seamlessly marries the worlds of fashion & foodies. From wearing linen pants on the Amalfi Coast to gingham print in your backyard garden, Tomato girl summer is in full swing - and I want every part of it.

While being a Tomato Girl specifically targets your wardrobe, I believe the aesthetic has woven its way into many aspects of daily routine. For me, the not-always-fashionable one, I find myself chasing the feeling more than the visuals. It has become a sweet spot that cherishes nostalgia, but also welcomes new, the 2000’s rom-com summer we were meant to live, the sun on your face, and your current favorite book on your back porch. Overall, it feels like GOODNESS.

I took to the assignment strongly and began my summer visiting a beloved friend, Marta, in Italy. Between aperitivos with her girlfriends and spilling espresso on my every shirt I owned, Tomato Girl Summer was in full effect. I wanted this feeling and trip to last forever, but our time together eventually concluded and the true Tomato Girl Experience was packed up right next to my passport and Sambas. Although most of the Tomato Girl inspiration photos derive from European and Mediterranean aesthetics, the Tomato Girl experience can be had any and everywhere.

Here are 6 ways to experience a Tomato Girl Summer from home:

1.Style a personal look featuring some of the Tomato Girl “must-haves” including: linen sets, your go-to summer swimsuit, cherry red accessories, and everything finished with gold jewels.

2. Make this delicious loaded grilled cheese, using summer tomatoes straight from the garden.

3. Have enough to share? This is the perfect opportunity to create a small summer picnic to share with a friend. A fresh summer salad and Aperol Spritz would *chef’s kiss* complete the meal perfectly! In the mood for an easy, yet yummy summer dinner? YouMUST TRY Rubirosa’s Vodka Sauce + Lumache duo *chef’s kiss*

4. Let this Tomato Girl Summer playlist I curated float through the house!

5. Make time to read! Reading is the perfect summer wind down, whether it be on your back porch in the shade or in the cafe down the street, this is the perfect season to dig into a good book. I’m currently reading “Black Cake” by Charmaine Wilkerson.

6. Craft night! Every 2000’s rom-com that I dream of living in always has a good friendship narrative outside of the love plot. Invite your closest friends over to do something you all love doing that equally allows you to tap into creativity. The world is your roasted oyster in tomato butter, but if you need some inspiration maybe consider making clay charms for a necklace that will complete your tomato girl look, a vision board collage party to envision the rest of the year, trinket boxes from used altoid containers, or maybe even painting your own tote bags!

I can’t wait to see what new specifically-tailored aesthetics come next, but for now happy TGS 🍅🥫
